Knitting Scrappy Hats

I have finished six scrappy hats since May 15. It seems that the scrap yarn is multiplying. For every hat I make there just seems to be more yarn left to knit.  The yarn scraps are from other hats that didn’t require a full skein of yarn. I take all the partial skins and put them in one or two bags depending on the size of the skeins of yarn. This often leads to more than one hat being on the needles at a time. I currently have two scrappy hats in progress.

Maybe I shouldn’t of waited until the bags were overflowing before I started knitting the scrappy hats.  In the picture below you will see the two current hats in progress and the two bags of scraps. I really want to get to knitting other hats, but this will only lead to more partial skeins and more scrappy hats.  So I will trudge on and try to finish as many scrappy hats as I can.  I don’t think it will be more than a dozen more hats before the bags are empty. Then I will go back to knitting full skein hats until the bags fill up again. This seems to be my endless cycle.

This is how I am spending my COVID19 summer vacation. What interesting things are you doing?

Fun Hats

I am getting to the point in the knitting of next winters hats that all I have are a couple bags of bits and pieces of yarn.  I like this kind of knitting because it challenges me. I want every hat to look like something my own kids would wear. They have to have a nice look and texture to the pattern. Most of all the color must flow so the hat looks well planned.  I even throw in bits of Hand spun yarn leftover from other projects. I like to go from this to that.

It's That Time of Year Again

Its the time of year to finish all my knitting UFO's.  There is a method to my madness.  You see I am running out of yarn for the scrappy hats that the kids love and I find so fun to make.  No, it is not necessary to send me your leftovers, I need to make my own.  So in my looking around the house at various UFO's I have found at least a few scarfs and 5 ponchos that will go to the kids.  I also have quite a few for me.   Not to mention the never ending blanket.

I think it would be fun for you to join me in finishing UFO's.  Then use the leftover yarn to make some funky scrappy hats for people in need in your own area.   If you are very proud of a finished object weather a former UFO or a scrappy hat, then send it to me and I will post it on my blog.   Common sense and decency rules will apply.  Please send the pictures in j-peg format.   Who knows, there just may be prizes involved.

Happy knitting, crocheting or weaving.  Now it's time to tackle this bag of projects.

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

No good deed goes unpunished. For me it was letting Eric rest part of yesterday. I can't tell you what a big mistake that was in so many ways. Eric was up until 3:30am and therefore we did nothing I had planed for today.

I think John got the worst of it though when he went to try to fix Eric's bed railing that broke. He has it held together with ducked tape but I have an e-mail in to Hill-Rom to see if they can help. When he was trying to fix Eric's bed John's i-pod touch the 4th generation that he just got fell out of his pocket hit the floor and the screen broke. Yes something else to add to my to do list for tomorrow. So If you know who repairs the screens for the i pod touch 4th gen please let me know.

Things are very hectic around here now and when things get really hectic I tend to knit scrappy hats. and other charity projects. The good or bad news is that I have found 2 large project bags filled with scrap yarn so I can knit to my hearts content. I should get about 20 hats out of all of this..

Well I am hoping that Eric is asleep so I can get some much needed rest tonight. tomorrow looks to be a very busy day.
